Do you know what your putting on your babies skin?

This past weekend at the Farmers Market I met the owner of Organically Clean “Bonnie Penner”.

I had questions regarding sunscreen for babies and what my options are. Not only did Bonnie give me amazing information, she also sent me the links with facts regarding the side effects of of these harmful products. What I really appreciated about Bonnie, was that she gave facts but also really encouraged me to do my own research.

I know that there is many view points on these subjects and I respect that. I started doing a little bit of research on my own due to the fact that McCarthy had gotten a cold and was struggling with it for several weeks. After looking into “Baby Sunscreen” I realized that due to the chemical effect it lowers your child’s immune system. I discontinued use and the liquid that had been hanging around in McCarthy’s lungs cleared up immediately! Coincidence ? Maybe, but after reading this information I chose to invest in a Organically Clean Sunscreen.

Dinner and bath time

I know your looking at this meal and thinking, wow they must have set some candles out and had a romantic evening. Nope! We are parents, so there is never just one job to be done, there are many. As we are flipping burgers, we are feeding the little man, chopping veggies and planning for bath time . This dinner was so great! Bursting with flavour, this burger and light, refreshing salad is the perfect combination to your hot summer days. This meal is quick, easy and delicious. To finish my story….We did enjoy dinner together! Troy and I had a picnic on the bathroom floor as McCarthy enjoyed his bath. Yep, that’s how we roll, high class and loving every minute of it.

Enjoy your weekend!

What’s your goal?

TRI-FITNESS MAY 2012 IS MY GOAL

what are vision and goals?

One of the most valuable experiences I ever had was working at lululemon athletica. Aside from the fun factor, lululemon takes personal responsibility in making sure you not only have goals for your life but that you’re achieving them. By doing this they create a world inside and outside of lululemon that is filled with leaders and entrepreneurs . luluelmon not only strongly believes in the power of their vision and goal setting training program, they know it works. It’s based on these six core concepts.

Your vision defines your ideal life and identifies the goals you’ll need to get there. Through goal setting, you get down to the nitty-gritty of what you need to do – and when you need to do it by – to create your ideal life. You may laugh at this , but talk to some of the most successful men and woman in the world and they will share with you that the most powerful thing they did was write down their vision. Writing something down changes your life course and your brain instantly starts working towards that goal. Don’t believe me? I have one more fact…The bible says in Hewbrews to write down your vision on tablets….So when your brother walks by he will see and know where you are headed.  I personally have seen the effects of writing my goals down in many ways. The following are a few examples.

You may or may not know this but 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Hypo-thyroidism. What Hypo-thyroidism basically does is slow your metabolism down, effects your energy levels, causes mood swings and it can have other serious side effects. To make a long story short I started  putting on large amounts of weight in a very short time frame and was losing all my energy for the day by lunch. Fast forward 5 years of trying every diet imaginable, working out for countless hours only to struggle with my weight and have very little success . It was time for a change. I wanted to become a mother and I knew I wanted to be healthy for the baby and myself. I had heard lots about clean eating and the benefits it can have in terms of difficulties such as thyroid disorders. During my pregnancy I read clean eating books and started to change the way I cooked for Troy and I. My pregnancy was amazing! Aside from morning sickness I felt great, and was able to teach until I was almost 8 months pregnant. I also continued my own workouts up until 4 days before I had McCarthy (He was 10 days late!!) Almost immediately after having McCarthy I got in touch with Carly Mitchell from Vo2max and had her set me up on a clean eating plan. You can see the results in my previous July & August blog posts.

How does this all tie into goal setting? When I started working for lululemon 2 years ago, I had my first goal setting experience. Aside from being terrified that my goals would not be inspiring or powerful enough, I was encouraged to write down the things I really wanted to see happen in my life. Being healthy for my family and myself was a huge part of my goal setting. I kept my goals and “By Whens” next to my mirror and every morning I would read over them and remind myself how important clean eating, exercise and positive focus was for my life. I surrounded myself with people who believed in me and challenged me to live outside a life of mediocracy.

2 years later-

I’m a successful clean eater

I’m in the best shape on my life

My blood test say my thyroid is level (This is a great thing)

I’m training for my first fitness competition

And I just completed another goal, to own a house. We just signed the paperwork last week to build our first house!

Goal setting has changed how I see my life. I look forward to sharing more of my goals and areas of opportunity in the future, I encourage you to visit the lululemon website and start setting some of your own goals.

      Your vision:

  • provides focus
  • helps you discover your personal path

Your goals:

  • inspire you to do the work
  • excite and even scare you
  • are specific, measurable and written in the present tense

what’s next?

Creating vision and setting goals is a continuous process. Your goals will (and should) evolve all the time. Read this blog post about why you should embrace your failures or read all the lululemon blog posts about goals.

I would love to hear your goals and what you have achieved!

Nothing like leather on a hot day

I apologies for the lack of blog posts. Shame on me. this past week has been something crazy….Husbands wisdom teeth out , Husbands 10 year high school reunion, and planning for this amazing photo shoot with Darren Hull.  Today was such an exciting day. I got the chance to work as Darren Hulls model for a concept shoot that he has been planning around this beauty of a car. I don’t want to say too much and give it all away. Stay tuned for the complete shoot by Darren and video by Tim Feeny

Small town gems

Yesterday was such a fantastic day! I spent part of my afternoon playing dress up with Stacey, from Tweaked and Yummy. I’m lucky enough to be part of a fashion show that her and Kaela, “Frock” are putting on this September.  Aside from being one of the cutest people you will ever meet, Stacey is also super inspiring as a business woman and a vintage fashionista. I found some amazing vintage pieces at her store yesterday and I can’t wait for the new outfit posts! My photographer was sick this morning ” the hubby” so instead of taking shots of my gems I decided to share with you some of Stacey’s from the Tweaked and Yummy website.

Enjoy~~*

My little helper-

Last night was one of those nights that seemed to go on forever. McCarthy has been battling teething on and off for the past couple weeks so my nights of peace and 12 hours of a sleeping baby have been filled with sore gums and a crying little man. I cannot stress how important it is for you to keep your body fuelled with nutrition packed food during these times. Whatever title you hold, Trainer, Mom , Working woman the list goes on and on, you need fuel to get through your days and especially tough times filled with little sleep or deadlines.  So next time all you can think about is your bed, grab some chicken, yams and throw together this super simple power packed dinner!

Chicken Nuggets-

Ingredients-

4-chicken breasts

1 cup gluten free bread crubs

1/4 cup low fat parm cheese

2 tbsp italian seasoning

2 tbsp roasted garlic

pepper to taste

Directions-

Place all ingredients in medium size bowl. Cut chicken into nugget sized pieces. Roll them in mixture, place on a cookie sheet lightly greased with coconut oil and bake 30-min at 350f or till chicken is fully cooked and lightly brown.

Yam Chips-

Ingredients-

1 organic yam

2 tbsp coconut oil

Sea salt and Pepper to taste

Directions-

Cut yam into whatever shape you desire “chip or french fry” just make sure they are thin slices.

Place on parchment paper, lightly brush with coconut oil, pepper and salt. Place in oven for 30 min at 400f.

Enjoy~~*

The Final Three…

I love how this outfit pops! Paired with a 70’s style dress and some vintage jewels this look is filled with all of my favourite things. And as you saw with the pencil skirt all you would have to do is let the hair down here and it would offer a softer look. I hope you have enjoyed these three looks as much as I did. See Alana’s final look at ilovedenham.

Have a great weekend!
