Glowing Green Smoothie

Sometimes the best advice does come from friends. I recently made one of the smartest health decisions I have in awhile. After hearing how amazing Kimberly Snyders “Beauty Detox” book was from my friend Alanna and Tasha, I decided it was time to check it out. What pushed me to actually go out and buy it was the change I saw in their bodies and faces over the course of a couple of months. Their skin has never looked this good and their overall physical bodies are looking leaner and healthier.  I feel like there are hundreds of amazing health tips I want to share with you from this gem! But like Kimberly says in the book “start small and add the good as you go.” So lets start small and add some good to your day. One of the greatest things I learned from this book was the importance of eating alkaline first.  At each meal, no matter what the whole meal will entail, we always begin by putting an alkaline food first in the body-either ripe fruit, raw vegetables or salad. This includes breakfast. Alkaline foods contain a great deal of fiber. Fiber acts as a cushion to help slow down glucose absorption in the bloodstream and prevents our blood sugar levels from becoming elevated and erratic.  Fiber also fills us up and helps diminish our physiologic cravings.  Now most of us have been taught to eat through our day heavy-light. Why is this wrong? In Beauty Detox, Kimberly gives an example of our bodies like a route. If you put a sixteen wheel truck and the front of your traffic line your going to slow down everyone traveling, right?  Well this is exactly how our body process food. When we place meat and heavy starches and the beginning of our day we are going to slow down our food from passing through us properly and being absorbed correctly.  Juice is the purest food of all, since it is not a solid food but a liquid, and should be always be consumed on an empty stomach so that it can be absorbed into the body first.  Green drinks are an amazing way to bring our bodies back to its alkaline state and set our day up for success. They are loaded with nutrition, minerals and balance your body to fight against your cravings.  Kimberly is famous for her “glowing green smoothie” and the positive effects in has on the body. I started drinking this smoothie 1.5 weeks ago, and no word of a lie my energy levels have risen so much I feel as though I’m addicted to this shake.  I feel balanced through my day and all my cravings for sugar and unhealthy carbs have been eliminated.  Sounds like the magical drink right?  Although everyone’s results are going to vary, I encourage you to blend this shake up and give it a shot!

Glowing Green Smoothie

What you will need-

1 1/2 cups of water

1 head of organic romaine lettuce

small bunch of organic spinach

3-4 stalks organic celery

1 organic appls

1 organic pear

1 organic banana

juice of 1/2 lemon

1/3 bunch organic cilantro

1/3 bunch parsley

Place items in your Vitamix, blend on high speed for 30 seconds and enjoy!

Fresh herbs, like cilantro and parsley, have wonderful cleansing properties and can help extract heavy metals and other toxins out of our body. If you do add herbs start small and work your way up. The first couple days I drank this shake, the detox effects were really strong do to the fact that I went full throttle right out of the gate. This amount will make about 60 ounces (a couple servings worth) and is good for 2 days in the fridge. Start with 16 ounces and work up to 30.

Just started the glowing green smoothies 3 days ago and loving it. The idea of eating light in the am seems so foreign to anything I have learned but the concept really does make sense. Thanks for sharing on your Instagram, it really peaked my interest on the book. Excited to keep going and see and feel more results.
